How Hibernate Works ?

Hibernate is the ORM – Object Relational Mapping solution for Java. It is a open source framework, a powerful, high performance Object-Relational Persistence and Query service for any Java Application.

Hibernate an ORM framework in which like all the frameworks we have some layers which can coordinate with each other.

We have database tables and java classes and our aim is to build a connection between these two. Hibernate maps the Java classes to the database tables and from Java data types to SQL data types and relieves the developer from 95% of common data persistence related programming tasks. It provides simple APIs for storing and retrieving the Java objects directly to and from the database. If there is any change in the database or in any of the table, then we has to change the XML file properties only.

There main thing is Hibernate is its configuration. There are 2 parts of configuration, one is for making the connection and other which is for mapping.

Hibernate sits between the traditional Java objects and the database server to handle all the works in persisting the objects based on the appropriate Object Relational mechanisms and patterns.

Hibernate is an ORM framework, which creates an abstraction on top of any SQL supporting database and the abstraction is represented as Object.

The advantage of Hibernate is that it supports Inheritance, Associations, Collections. In hibernate if we save the derived class object, then its base class object is also stored into the database, by which it means hibernate supporting inheritance.
