There are two types of table involved in Dimensional Modeling and this model concept is different from the third normal form. The Dimensional data model concept makes the use of a facts table containing the measurements of the business and dimension table containing the measurement context.

Data mapping is a process of mapping a field data sources to the targeted file or location. There are multiple data mapping tools available which help the developers in mapping the data from a source file to target file.

A data movement modes determines how the power center server can handle the character data. We choose the data movement in the Informatica server configuration settings. Two types of data movement modes available in Informatica.

We can migrate from one environment to another by the following steps :-

  • We can export repository and import into the new environment
  • We can use Informatica deployment groups
  • We can Copy folders/objects
  • We can Export each mapping to XML and import in a new environment

Transformation is a repository object that helps in generating, modifying or passing data. In a mapping, transformations make a representation of the operations integrated with service performs on the data. All the data goes by transformation ports that are only linked with maple or mapping.

In data warehousing, a fact table contains metrics, measures or facts about a business process. The fact table is located at the snowflake schema or star schema surrounded by multiple dimension tables. A fact table typically contains two columns in which one contains facts and the other one is a foreign key.

A Mapplet is a reusable object that contains a set of transformations and enables to reuse that transformation logic in multiple mappings.

Informatica Power Center is designed by Informatica Corporation, it is data integration software providing an environment that lets data loading into a centralized location like a data warehouse. From here, data can be easily extracted from an array of sources, also can be transformed as per the business logic and then can be easily loaded into files as well as relation targets.

There are two different ways to load data in dimension tables:
Conventional (Slow): All the constraints and keys are validated against the data before, it is loaded; this way data integrity is maintained.
Direct (Fast): All the constraints and keys are disabled before the data is loaded. Once data is loaded, it is validated against all the constraints and keys. If data is found invalid or dirty it is not included in the index and all future processes are skipped on this data.

OLAP - Online Analytical Processing is a powerful technology that works behind the scenes to support many business intelligence applications. This application gathers, manages, transforms and presents multidimensional data for analysis purposes.

OLTP - Online Transaction Processing) which consists of online data and normalized tables. It is designed to store the operational data on a continuous basis. It performs day-to-day operations and is used for data analysis. OLTP store data one transaction at a time.

Foreign keys of dimension tables are the primary keys of entity tables.
Foreign keys of facts tables are the primary keys of dimension tables.

We can delete duplicate records im ways :-

  • In the source, qualifier use select distinctly
  • Use Aggregator and group by all fields
  • Override SQL query in Source qualifier

Following are the tools that do not need lock:

  • Data Manager
  • Merge Manager
  • Hierarchy manager
  • Audit Manager

Data can be extracted from multiple sources can be transformed according to the business logic and can be loaded into files and relation targets.

Use following query SELECT MAPPING_NAME FROM REP_ALL_MAPPINGS WHERE SUBJECT_AREA='YOUR_FOLDER_NAME' AND PARENT_MAPPING_IS_VALIED 1

Two types of LOCK are used in Informatica MDM 10.1. They are:
1. Exclusive Lock: Letting just one user make alterations to the underlying operational reference store.
2. Write Lock: Letting multiple users make amendments to the underlying metadata at the same time.

The Schema is defined as a data model that is being used in the implementation of a Siperian Hub. In general, a Siperian Hub does not require any specific schema. The Siperian Hub contains a schema and it is independent.

A Base object in MDM is used to define core business entities such as products, employees, customers, accounts, etc. The base object acts as an endpoint for consolidating data from various systems. The Schema manager is the only way you have to define base objects, it is not allowed to configure in the database.
