Apache Pig is a high-level platform for creating programs which run on Apache Hadoop. It is a high level scripting language that is used for Apache Hadoop. The language for this platform is called Pig Latin. Pig can execute its Hadoop jobs in MapReduce, Apache Tez, or Apache Spark.
Pig enables the data workers to write complex data transformations without knowing Java. Pig's simple SQL-like scripting language is called Pig Latin, and appeals to developers already familiar with scripting languages and SQL.
Apache Pig enables the users to focus more on analyzing bulk sets of data and to spend less time in writing Map-Reduce programs. Similar to Pigs that eat anything, the Pig programming language is designed to work on any kind of data and so it is named as Pig!
